1928 Ford 2 Door Sedan Hot Rod Detailed Description


The following descriptive comments are from an appraisal done by Jim Winter Collectible Car Appraisals. And are used here with permission. Copying/Use of this material without permission is strictly prohibited!

1. BODY AND EXTERIOR

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: A 1928 Ford Street Rod. The body is in very good condition with numerous custom modifications.

Features are;

  • 3 inch chopped top

  • Filled cowl fuel filler

  • Custom recessed firewall

  • Molded cowl and visor

  • Filled door handles

  • Hidden door hinges

  • Tubbed rear section

Quality of bodywork is very good.

EXTERIOR FINISH: The car is finished in House of Colors Pearl white with a burgundy hued flame motif on the body sides. Paint quality is very good.

FRONT FENDERS: Fiberglass units with a custom built front apron.

HOOD: A one piece side opening top unit is fitted with louvered and flamed side panels.

ROOF: The top is padded maroon Hartz cloth, matching the original configuration. The top has been chopped 3 inches in front tapering to 2.5 inches in rear. Workmanship is good.

DOORS: The doors are chopped 3 inches to match the roof. Hidden hinges and bearclaw latches with remote control are fitted.

RUNNING BOARDS, ROCKER PANELS & DOOR SILLS: Reproduction steel splash apronand reproduction steal running boards are fitted. No rubber is used on the boards, finished to match the exterior.

REAR FENDERS: Widened fiberglass units are fitted accommodating the tubbed body. Acustom-built rear pan is fitted housing the taillights and license plate.

TRUNK: NA

GRILLE AMD BRIGHT WORK; A fiberglass 1932 Ford radiator shell is fitted with a stainless steel insert. All chrome and stainless steel is to very good condition on this car.

LIGHTING AND ELECTRICAL DETAIL: The car has been wired using a Haywire System.

 Features are;

  • 1932 Ford headlamps

  • Turn signals

  • Chrome alternator

  • Electric radiator cooling fan

  • Mini starter

  • Vintage Aire air conditioning unit with heater

  • HEI distributor

  • Electrical systems isolation switch

  • Anti-theft starting system

EXTERNAL ACCESSORIES AND OPTIONS:

 Features are;

  • Dropped stainless steel headlight bar

  • Dual billet aluminum side mirrors

  • Stainless steel license plate frame with third brake light

  • Billet tail lamps

  • Custom features previously noted


2. GLASS

TYPE AND CONDITION: Tinted glass is fitted through out. The windshield is a glued-in unit omitting the stock frame. New channels and fuzz are used throughout.


3. CHASSIS

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: A custom built chassis constructed of rectangular tubing is fitted.

Features are:

  • Plastic saddle tanks

  • Driveshaft hoop

  • Custom-built center crossmember

  • Stainless steel brake and fuel lines throughout

MOTOR AND ENGINE COMPARTMENT DETAIL: A new GM ZZ4 crate motor is fitted.

Features are;

  • Billet aluminum air cleaner with etched flame motif

  • Edelbrock carburetor

  • GM bowtie intake manifold

  • Billet aluminum valve covers

  • Edelbrock fuel pump

  • Billet pulleys and bracketing

The engine compartment is very clean, painted and polished to show quality condition

COOLING SYSTEM: A Walker radiator is fitted.

 Features are:

  • Stainless steel overflow tank

  • Electric cooling fan

  • Vintage Aire heater and air conditioning unit

EXHAUST SYSTEM: Ceramic coated block bugger headers are fitted to dual exhaust with Turbo style mufflers.

TRANSMISSION, CLUTCH ASSEMBLY AND DRIVELINE: A GM Turbo 700R4 transmission with a custom-built driveshaft is used.

FRONT SUSPENSION:  A polished Super Bell Axle is fitted,

Related components are:

  • GM calipers with Aspen rotors

  • Chrome shock absorbers

  • Stainless steel four link

  • Power brakes

  • Flaming River steering box

  • Flaming River joints and couplers to steering column

REAR SUSPENSION: Coil over shock absorbers with triangulated four link and sway bar.

DIFFERENTIAL: Narrowed Ford 9 inch 4:86 ratio with posi-traction.

GENERAL UNDERBODY CONDITION: Very clean and painted. Numerous polished stainless steel components are used. Show quality condition.

TIRES:

  • Front: Nankang 145 R15 78S

  • Rear: Mickey Thompson Sportsman 31 x 18.50 x 15

WHEELS:

  • Front: Weld Racing Flame Motif 15 x 5

  • Rear: Weld Racing Flame Motif 15 x 15

HUBCAPS: Weld Racing center caps

4. INTERIOR

INTERIOR TRIM: The interior is trimmed in maroon tweed with white and brown leather trim, Quality is very good. The dashboard and window frames are finished to match the exterior.

DASHBOARD: A fiberglass 1932 Ford unit is fitted utilizing a billet panel with classic tachometer, speedometer, oil pressure, fuel, temperature, fuel and volts gauges. The dashboard is painted to match the exterior.

STEERING COLUMN AND CONTROLS INCLUDING GEAR SELECTOR: An Ididit polished stainless steel tilt column and drop is fitted mounting a Grant flame motif steering wheel A B&M ratchet shifter is used with Lokar pedals and throttle linkage.

FRONT SEATS: Fiero high back front buckets in maroon tweed with white leather trim.

REAR SEATS: NA. The rear seat area houses the sound system.

HEADLINER: The headliner is in maroon tweed with a polished stainless steel upper console housing the AM/FM/CD player.

DOOR PANELS: The panels are in maroon tweed with flame motif. Custom-built arm rests are used.

CARPETS AND MATS: Maroon carpet with loose mats, all in good condition.

REAR PACKAGE TRAY: NA

DOOR AND WINDOW CONTROLS AND LOCKING MECHANISMS: Bearclaw latches with Specialty power window controls, hidden outer hinges and remote entry.

GLOVE COMPARTMENT: NA

WEATHER STRIPPING: New weather stripping throughout car.

INTERIOR ACCESSORIES AND OPTIONS:

Features are:

  • Pioneer Super Tuner AM/FM/CD with remote

  • 10 speakers hidden throughout interior

  • A prize winning sound system


5. VEHICLE HISTORY

Built 2001 in Edmonton. The present owner purchased the car in 2004. This car has won many trophies throughout Alberta and in the USA

A well built contemporary street rod. Quality parts and workmanship evident throughout.
